Keep Austin Neutered was started by a few people that want to make a difference in the lives of pets in and around Austin.  In May 2005 the Animal Advisory Commission voted to send proposed legislation to Austin City Council that would make the City of Austin a Spay/Neuter city.  Opposition to sterilization legislation is huge and it became apparent that those of us in support of an ordinance need to come together and form a louder voice.

Similar legislation was tabled in 2004 and we don't want to see that happen again.  Once the proposed ordinance reaches Austin City Council and finds a sponsor, Keep Austin Neutered will be there to help save animals lives through prevention.

12,201 animals were killed at Austin's Town Lake Animal Center in 2003-2004.  That's about 54% of the animals brought in.  Keep Austin Neutered realizes that to reduce the number of animals that die, we have to reduce the number of unwanted animals entering our shelters.  Only through prevention can we save lives.
